This time with your help I am supporting children closer to home and learning recently what Nordoff Robins and Childline do for children has really touched my heart and I am sure will yours too.
Well I have now completed the 100+miles and I can tell you it was PAINFUL! The last 5kms on the 2nd day (ie the 105km stage) was my low point. Bum pain you have never felt anything like it, and trying to shift the weight the pain then extended to wrists, elbows and my knees really did suffer. I certainly would not choose to do this for fun, but the good thing is we are helping 2 great charities and that's what kept me going. Being "the " photographer of the group I had to carry my 8 kilo camera too and take lots of pics along the way, link to website to be added soon.
The group were a great bunch of people (and have nearly raised £200,000!!) and everyone completed except poor Goran who tore a ligament in his leg and had to have an operation when we got back.
The ride was in order to raise much needed funds for Childline and Norfoff Robbins Music Therapy. In a recession such as we have now, Charities tend to suffer greatly so its even more important that we all help as much as we can. Both of these Charities assist children and you can find out more about them if you wish at www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/ and www.childline.org.uk. (note please that Nordoff Robbins will pay half of the profits to Childline from their collections here and elsewhere)
We set off on Jan 21 2010 for Aswan, Egypt, arriving quite late, then up early the next day to spend the morning choosing and checking our bikes, which are supplied. Over the following 48 hours we cycled over 100 miles more or less along the Nile ending up in Luxor.
fresh2o supporters if you want to set up a similar venture and raise funds for fresh2o please contact info@fresh2o.org
