Once they were just anonymous pretty faces and
the only one whose name was known was Twiggy.
Now popular culture has elevated fashion models to the celebrity levels
of royalty - with their own TV shows, perfumes, underwear collections, rockstar
boyfriends and the centre of much public health debate as millions
of wannabe fans emulate their stick insect status.
The latest development in the rise of the uber-model takes places
in London on Monday evening (August 20th) - when Selfridges will reveal
which UK model's face will grace the launch of a hip new health-drink
- aka the face that launched a thousand
sips. Firefly
health tonics is to celebrate the current craze for
mogul models by printing the face of a contender for LivingTV'S Britain's
Next Top Model on a special edition of 30,000 bottles
of their fashion drink.
But in order to win, each of the models from the TV show first had
to turn skin-diver, hold their breath and model underwaterfor
photos by top fashion photographer Candice for a public awareness
campaign for the freshwater charity fresh2o
- which campaigns to bring freshwater projects to drought-blighted
lands where a child dies every 15 seconds from illness related to
filthy water.
Dangerous? Maybe, but it's all in a tall girl's stride when
you're vying to become the face of the next media darling, darling.
The new face of Firefly,
the new face of fresh2o
and the new face beneath the hair tamed by stunt sponsors
